A N N A I K A She moved with a type of predatory smoothness. Here in the forest she didn't have to work to conceal her form of movement that many humans would find disturbing. She was in human form but she didn't move like one--her strides were silent and steady, and her green eyes darted around, as if searching for a threat. Or prey.
Annaika stopped at the lake. The moon reflected off of the water, giving silvery light to her shape. Her hair was obviously dark, her eyes bright. Her shirt exposed the tattoo below her belly-button; it was a tattoo of the paw of a mountain lion, the creature that prowled inside of her now, waiting for herself to let it out to enjoy the night.
Without speaking, not to the night and not to herself, Annaika pulled off her shirt, and then her pants, before she stood in only her underwear. No one was around, not yet anyways, though Annaika was sure the night would soon be joined by more shifters, but she still showed little discomfort with standing in no more then her underwear.
Annaika crouched and let herself absorb the cool freshness of the air. She didn't enjoy the company of others and so she took the time to revel in her solidarity. For now, for these few moments at least, she was completely alone and at peace with herself and the world. Palms rested on the cool earth and she imagined the power of it flowing into her, strengthening her, and, though it was just her imagination, she even allowed herself to let out a moan as new found relaxation spread through her body.
Then the relaxation was pushed away by the lust to shift. She narrowed her eyes, an image of desire and need. Annaika released her thoughts of the peacefulness of the night, of her bliss of being alone, and groped for the threads of the cougar within her. She didn't move onto the shift immediately but focused on the cougar. Felt as it became aroused and she with it. She wasn't ready yet, but she would do it soon. After removing her underwear. She didn't want to waste the money she'd spent on them.

The night felt fabulous, a paradise outside the city. The figure perched casually in one of the trees was clearly enjoying herself, even going so far as to hum a tune to herself. Not too loud, not really. In fact, it was hardly audible. The figure, the young woman, did not like to be heard. Well, at least not when she didn't know who was listening. The forest was a place for her to be as loud as she wanted and not be scolded. Alice could scream and yowl all she wanted, but the worse she could do was startle the animals nearby. Always fun to chase them, especially the squirrels. Furiously fast, and tricky. A refreshing challenge from the dull humans in the concrete jungle.
Something, someone, disturbed the forest air. She didn't know who, but she knew they were there. The bugs had grown quiet. The young woman leaned forward, eyes wide and oddly reflective in the moonlight streaming through the gaps in the tree branches above her. One might've said they were...cat like. Alice remained absolutely still, staring at the human, if she was that, walk by. Her gait was odd, too smooth to be human. Pale green eyes watched the figure go by, intrigued. Ever so quietly, the black haired young woman dropped to the ground, the soft ground masking her noise.
Carefully, she followed the other woman towards the lake. She stopped at the edge of the forest, half-hiding behind one of the last trees. She grimaced and looked away when the other person undressed. Probably just came for a swim or something. Nothing of use could be gained by staring at her. Alice turned and started back into the forest, thinking of perhaps going for a stroll through the town for a late night snack. Anything would be better than watching some stranger go skinny dipping. Ick.

Annaika's breathing quickened as the mountain lion rose to the surface. If she wished, she could Shift in moments, but she liked taking it slow. To her, the process of a slow Shift felt like a lovers' touch, only better. Her eyes slitted, becoming more of a mossy green. But then...
Annaika's head whipped around, her lips automatically curling back from her teeth. Her face, except for the color and pupils of her eyes, was the face of a human. But on a human the look would have looked wrong and faked. The snarl on this females face looked real. Because Annaika could get a closer look, the face of the other woman turned away. Annaika quickly composed her features and stood up gracefully.
Can I help you? she asked in an amplified voice that somehow seemed soft and silky at the same time. She couldn't tell what the woman was. She could be a Shifter--animal or human--or she could be a plain human. Annaika hadn't heard her approach but that didn't necessarily mean anything. Though most humans were as loud as horses there were the few that had mastered the art of walking silently. And besides, Annaika had been mostly absorbed in her own lust. She studied the woman's stature, but that didn't tell her much either. She could easily be a human or Shifter.
Annaika couldn't stop the low growl that began building in her throat, though she could stop it from becoming too noticeable. As far as she could tell there was no one else but her instincts kept her wary. She had just seen this woman sneak up on her and then try to sneak away. She could be a human, intent on hunting a Shifter, though very few humans knew of Shifters. Or she could be a Shifter, intent on hurting Annaika somehow.
Or she could just be another Shifter enjoying the night, a voice in her head chimed. Annaika would have snarled at the voice if she could. Not that it was wrong, it was just annoying how it came up with the logical answer. Not everyone is out to get you, Annaika, the voice/Annaika reminded herself. Still, that didn't stop her wariness.

SHE'S THE SYMBOL OF RESISTANCE and she's holding on my heart like a hand grenade She had shifted earlier. She had gone for a nice long run through the forest, and now she was stopping at the beautiful lake to get some water…or swim. Swimming would be fun, but she needed to get home soon. Scarlett didn’t like being alone during the late hours. It made her feel vulnerable, especially because as a human she could hardly protect herself. Though, she was extremely strong and whatever, but still. It was hardly enough to save a life. Scarlett wiped her long brown hair over her shoulder and began to walk faster as the noises of the forest began to creep up on her. Though, she was far from being scared.
Her car was parked somewhere outside the forest, and her leather jacket was hanging from her arm. She was heading back to the lake and then to her car so she could get home. But then, the scents hit her nose. No, she did not have great smelling skills in her human form, but they were close enough that their smells were filling her nose. Scarlett jumped behind a tree and contemplated shifting. If she was to shift, she would want to take off her clothes and preserve them-she had already lost a pair of short shorts and a tank top earlier that night-but this outfit she actually liked. And if she wanted to shift because of danger, she would not have time to change.
Scarlett blinked her eyes and slowly they changed to her bright green snow leopard eyes. She wanted to see where the others were located and if she really had any dangers to worry about. A low growl emitted her throat as she placed her green eyes on the two women. One walking away, and another standing near the water. A breath escaped her mouth, the one by the water was a shifter, and she could smell it.
She dropped her leather jacket; she needed to lose her baggage if she planned on running quickly. But for now, she wanted to approach the females and see if there was a problem. Or if she could be entertained before she headed home. So Scarlett walked with her grace and dominance towards the two girls. She stood a far length away from the animal shifter and she called out, "Everything okay?" She usually thought of the worse, like someone was injured or someone was dying. But that was only because she was so violent herself. There she was, watching them, making sure no one was hurt. And if they were fine, she might pick a fight or just carry on with her life.

The other woman was speaking now. Her voice was strong, unafraid. Alice raised a dark eyebrow, smirking slightly as she left the faint path and climbed easily into a tree. She perched upon one of the higher branches, though the other woman remained out of sight. She casually leaned, her back against the thick trunk of the tree. Plucking a leaf from the branch, the young woman shredded it thoughtfully as she thought of a suitable reply. She liked to speak knowing that she would make a bit of sense, at least to herself. Not everyone thought she made sense, but that was alright. She couldn't, and wouldn't, please everyone. Then the world would be no fun to her at all.
"That is a very good question. Could you, would you, help me if I asked?" she asked, letting the shredded leaf bits float to the ground. She had a vague idea that the other was a shifter, most likely an animal, but there was no way to tell for sure unless she saw her shift. Though, at the moment, she did not care a whole lot. She was not a very actively caring person. Sure, she could be dreadfully curious about things, but she would not push for answers unless she couldn't take the questions anymore. Running her long fingers through her hair, she felt static electricity spark. She pulled back, shivering slightly at the ticklish feeling she got as her black hair fell back against her neck. She pulled at the strands of thoughts drifting within her mind. The one she had startled was most likely wondering of her own identity. Friend, or foe? Shifter, or human? If a shifter, what kind? Oh, so many questions. So many... opportunities.
Another scent wafted by, another figure to be wary of. Seconds later came a voice to match the new smell. Her question was intriguing, and genuine. What would she do if there was a problem? Would she help settle a dispute? Would she walk away? Tick, tick, tick, the questions built up inside of her head, flitting here and there. "Is everything okay?" she questioned. A question for a question. The same question, one could say. "What a difficult question!" she cackled, delighted, waving her hands over her head with a quirky grin on her face. The leaves rustled at the abrupt movement, then quieted again. Now two girls stood in the territory, two confused people in a world of the truly questionable. One by the lake, looking for her, and one among the trees, wondering what was going on. Brilliant!

Her lips twitched into what might have been a smile, if only it hadn't disappeared so quickly. "That is a very good question. Could you, would you, help me if I asked?" Annaika tilted her head, considering the question for a moment though there really wasn't anything to consider. Naw, I probably wouldn't, she answered slowly, almost slyly.
The other woman swarmed up the tree and Annaika watched, not missing a single movement. If there had been a doubt before it was very nearly erased now. Humans just didn't do things like that. Sure, some of them climbed trees but not in the middle of a conversation with a stranger and not as easily as that woman had. Annaika could related. She loved trees, both in and out of feline form.
Another woman joined them and Annaika didn't try to hide the slight curl of her lips. So much for a nice, peaceful night. The mountain lion had kept her at bay so far but that wouldn't last long. What lust had remained was gone now, replaced by Annaika's own mounting frustration. She hated people bothering her, especially during one of her own special rituals. Shifting was her private solace, her time away from the university and the buzzing humans. Usually there were other Shifters in the forest but usually they also left each other alone. Until this woman had come, and then attracted another.
The slim woman crossed her arms over her chest, bare except for her bra. She didn't bother to put her shirt on. In fact, she barely even spared that a moments' consideration. This was her private time and if they didn't like her near-nakedness then they could just leave. Well, she could only cross her fingers that they would.
Annaika's lips twisted into something closer to a snarl, and again she didn't try to disguise it. Such a hard question, eh? How about this: leave me alone and everything will me all right. Unless you both wouldn't mind seeing a woman in the nude in the middle of the woods...? One of Annaika's arms slithered behind her, fingers resting on where her bra hooked together. She didn't unsnap it, though little was stopping her. Girls used to be more respectful but you never know these days. Perverts everywhere. Annaika tossed a pointed glance at the first woman and at that moment the wind shifted, letting the scent of one of the woman drift towards her. It was from the most recent arrival and she scented of feline. So that made two feline Shifters and there was the possibility that the other woman was one as well. Hell. There went privacy and relaxation.

SHE'S THE SYMBOL OF RESISTANCE and she's holding on my heart like a hand grenade The growl left her throat before she could really understand that she had let it go. She stopped it before it had gotten loud enough for the third woman to hear it. But the one closest to her, the one that she knew was a Shifter. Would have heard it loud and clear. Her eyes narrowed slightly, and she just wanted to get out of there. She knew what was happening. The Shifter wanted to Shift and they were disrupting her. She sighed, knowing how annoying and awkward that was. Scarlett turned and ran quickly back to her jacket, not wanting to leave it now that she had assessed the situation. After grabbing it and running back to the other women, she began to walk simply.
She was walking in the direction of her car, like she had intended to before all distractions. She completely ignored the woman whose answers baffled her mind. Why bother wasting my time. I don’t need to shift, or see her shift. I’m just going to get out of here. she thought with a huff as she walked up to where the Shifter was. Though, she kept her distance. "Sorry, I’ll be going now." She said it calmly like any other person would’ve said it. But her eyes betrayed her knowing what the woman wanted to do.
Scarlett continued to walk, not waiting for a response. Her car was not far from here, she could smell its gasoline. And a grin crossed over her lips. This meant she would get to go home really sorry. Sleep and eat was in store for her. When she got to the other woman, whose answers made her nervous; she scanned her eyes over the girl and narrowed her brown eyes slightly. "You should really get going as well." She said it as a warning for what would be in store for the other woman if the Shifter did shift.
